I don’t doubt for a second that Joburg Metropole is a mess. But comments like “there will always be hobo’s and there will always be the discontented and complainers” remind me exactly why people accused Helen Zille of having been mayor to the rich.

Murray, there will always be hobo’s and there will always be the discontented and complainers. The differences between the Cape Town and JHB Metro administration is like chalk and cheese.

It should be pointed out — in fairness to the mandarins of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Council — that not everyone felt that way about Zille’s administration of Cape Town. Many of the city’s poor seemed to think she was mayor of the wealthy.
