THE ANC’s secretary general, Gwede Mantashe, seems to be the only one out there prepared to lead from the front even if it means standing in the wind blasted out by the populists.
His latest comments were on the Eskom crisis and allegations that Bobby Godsell was fulfilling some kind of race-based agenda.
“By beginning to accuse Godsell of being a racist… we know that is far from the truth. We begin to talk of [Eskom CEO Jacob] Maroga purely on the basis of blackness. We must focus on the crisis and try and address that crisis,” said Mantashe according to a Sapa report.
More: “Everybody must be careful. If there’s a crisis, they begin to be personal and begin to go to the lowest level of irrationality.”

For Gwede to be effective in dealing with loose canons, he needs to be consistent. Mandela did not gain his recongnition overnight- he was consistent in tackling racism. Now the ball is in the new NEC to prove to everyone that they aspire to be the same kind of leaders who ushered SA into the new democracy. Imagine if current ANC leaders had to negotiate with the previous white government for our freedom. I doubt if we would have made some progress.
If they do not think that we need continuity in terms of strategic thinkers, then they are undermining the problems of this country, and they will be judged harshly by history as the crop that destroyed the gains achived by Tambo,Sisulu,Hani, Mandela, Mbeki and others. As leaders of South Africa and not just of the ANC, the current NEC and its affiliates need to be aware of these challenges and not fail future generations.
Be consistent in fighting racism , everytime a loose canon makes an unsavoury statement.
Dumb faaks in the NEC …one and all! At least they are consistently incompetent and corrupt.
The thing everyone seems to have forgotten about is ETHICS! Treating people with respect, even if you differ in opinion, and understanding that with freedom comes responsibility. David
