RESEARCHERS have uncovered a link between blood types and resistance to HIV.
Scienceblog.com reports that researchers from the Canadian Blood Service, SickKids, and Lund University in Sweden “have discovered that certain blood types are more predisposed to contracting HIV, while others are more effective at fending it off.”
Tstudy shows that cells from people who produce a rare antigen, “the Pk blood group” are much less prone to HIV infection.
“This study is not suggesting that your blood type alone determines if you will get HIV,” said the study’s lead author Dr. Don Branch.
But the finding may lead to better therapy.
