These five priorities from the ANC’s statement on its election manifesto meeting:
“The conference re-affirmed the five key priorities identified by the ANC, which will require urgent attention to eradicate the high levels of inequality, unemployment and poverty in the country. These five priorities are:
Decent work: The ANC will pursue policies that strengthen the link between economic development and decent work. It will upscale the public investment programme in line with available resources, and implement an industrial policy that assists in maintaining growth.
Education: The ANC has already started a campaign to improve our education system and will increase investment in this sector. Measures will be adopted to improve the quality of education, particularly in maths and science; improve teacher training; and in making schooling more accessible to the poor.
Health: We are committing ourselves to the progressive implementation of the National Health Insurance (NHI) system and the measurable upgrading of public health facilities. We have recommitted ourselves to making a meaningful difference to the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS, in particular reducing the number of new infections, ensuring that all who need ARV treatment have access to it, and putting in place more effective partnership in the form of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC).
Crime: The ANC will address the unacceptable levels of crime in this country. We will aim to bring the levels of contact crime down by 7-10% per year. We will increase the capacity of the South African Police Service (SAPS) through recruitment, rigorous training, better remuneration, and increasing the capacity of the especially the detective services and forensics. The ANC will continue to protect our constitutional freedoms such as freedom of expression, independence of the judiciary and freedom of association.
Rural Development: Land reform is to be expanded, implemented more rigorously, and linked to the creation of economic opportunities on a mass scale, with vastly improved post-settlement support. Infrastructure programmes will be reviewed and expanded to make them relevant to rural needs.”

“…the NEC gang members are less knowledgeable with no past experience …” Trevor Manuel, Pallo Jordan, Dlamini-Zuma, Zuma, Ramaphosa, Sexwale, Nyanda, Skweyiya, etc…… WTF you talking about, munt?
Speaking of education, wouldnt it be wonderful if they(anc leaders) lead by example i.e send their children to public schools which they administer instead of sending them to ultra-expensive larney private schools like Pandor and Motshega are doing?
Are they just showing off or do they maybe know something that the rest dont, hence the “do as we say…not as we do” mantra?
Zabalaza: I cannot agree with you more. My kids were disadvantaged by having to attend schools in the townships. Guess whose kids would be in the front of the employment queue, though. The sick part of this bad joke is that the ANC elite\’s children lay claim to having been previously disadvantage!!!
The challenge that Afrikan made earlier cannot go unchallenged so here is my fourth try at answering him:
1. Trevor Manual knows what he is doing but he is not black enough to be President.
2. What has Pallo Jordon ever done other that to stuff his face and pontificate on esoteric things?
3. Where in God’s name is Dlamini-Zuma hiding and what can she show for all the years in government?
4. Jacob Zuma is a prize unmentionable part of the anatomy and has a talent for making inane policy announcements that is nothing more than populist hot air.
5. Cyril Ramaphosa, is bright and has great potential but he is marginalized by ANC comrades because he belongs to the wrong tribe.
6. Sexwale is a loudmouth who became an instant millionaire because of political connections. What has he earned through his own brains and hard work?
7. Nyanda was an incompetent private who was promoted to General because of the ANC. How did he benefit the armed forces in this country?
8. Skweyiya can hardly be described as a model for good governance and an innovative thinker that will solve his ministry’s problems.
Here is my challenge to you, Afrikan, how are these buffoons going to solve the staggering crime rate, poor health, housing, chronic water & electricity supplies, gutter education, rampant unemployment in an economy in recession, and pay for the billions in new grants?
Remember all these things need to happen while the ANC connected crooks fill their pockets with BEE contracts that favour the few and not the millions who are struggling to survive.
Sorry guys… have to sign out as the security police of the Sunday Times or the ANC have blocked my posts.
Do what I did Eli. Wipe out a few days worth of posts, it takes a half an hour. Keep doing it until these cants wake up and fix this website.
or pop over to Fred Khumalo’s blog and help me sort out Zodwa. Not that I need any help.
@Afrikan: First of two-part answer
1. Trevor Manual knows what he is doing but he is not black enough to be President.
2. What has Pallo Jordan ever done other that to stuff his face and pontificate on esoteric things?
3. Where in God’s name is Dlamini-Zuma hiding and what can she show for all her years in government?
4. Jacob Zuma is a prize unmentionable body part who has a talent for making inane policy announcements that is nothing more than populist hot air.
5. Cyril Ramaphosa, is very bright, ethical, and has great potential as a State President but he is marginalized by ANC comrades because he belongs to the wrong tribe.
See part two…
@African: Part two of your answer…
6. Sexwale is a loudmouth who became an instant millionaire because of political connections. What has he earned through his own brains and hard work?
7. Nyanda was an incompetent private who was promoted to General because of the ANC. How did he benefit the armed forces in this country?

…and poor Trevor is waiting to be frustrated out of his job or recalled instead of jumping ship now…all because he’s a disciplined, loyal, hardworking, dedicated cadre of the movement…shame man.
1. Trevor Manuel does a very good job and he will stay in the ANC, why do you think the ANC plans to frustrate him to hell and back?
2. Your statements about Pallo are just more of your tactics to fish for Cope
3. Dlamini Zuma is Mbheki’s loyalist and I wouldn’t be surprised if she jumps ship sooner if not later
4. Jacob Zuma is a fine leader, next year around this time you will be having objective evidence.
5. Cyril Ramaphosa is one of the ANC heavy weights, I’m sure he will make president sooner if not after Jacob Zuma. You have started again with your allegations and false statements, please support your allegation with facts and not propaganda.
Another good move by the ANC
THE ANC will remove potential parliamentary candidates implicated in corruption from its lists for the 2009 national and provincial elections. The ANC wants to ensure credible, competent and hardworking individuals represent it in the parliament.
The ANC will also cleanup all it’s structures to eliminate last minutes exposures which damages the image of the organization. Some members of the NEC could be withdrawn from their positions in the next future.
Zodwa,Vavi and Blade will seriously disagree with you about Trevor doing a good job(do you even know what he’ does?)and believe sis’wami,as the real leaders of the anc, when they send out subtle messages that they dont like you,you wont last long in govt, ask Mr Mbeki and Mr Godongwana.
“Zuma is a fine leader and next year around this time, you’ll be having objective evidence”…well sweetheart, zuma has proven his “fine” leadership in govt for 11 years and his record speaks for itself.
“anc will remove potential parliamentary candidates implicated in corruption from its lists…Maybe you need to lay off the sleeping tablets that keeps you going Zodwa, you beginning to mix reality with dreams/illusions.
Bwaa ha ha ha ha ha ha…bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha..iyoo.you are so funny
Oh easy on the nonsonso Zodwa.
You dont know your propaganda fact from your propaganda fiction. Careful next time you turn around that you dont walk into yourself.
The only reason that you have an answer for everything, is that you fabricate. poor material makes good BS.
This makes for easy target practice.
1. Trevor Manuel knows that he is not black enough for the ANC. COPE does not have this problem. He is also being shortlisted along with Tito Mboweni and Mrs Nguca as the leader of COPE. Dont forget that COPE is still attracting ANC leaders. A lot can happen in a week of politics. COPE still has six months.
2. ???? Just nonsonso
3. See how Mbeki loyalists are treated. No wonder COPE was formed. The ANC pushed them to it. Dlamini Zuma and Manto should share an office and give the tax payer something at least. The ANC deserves them.
4. Jacob Zuma is a fine leader of cows, next year around this time you will be having objective evidence.
5. ?????? Just more nonsonso.
Another good move by the ANC, you say.
Which was any of the preceding good moves lately, going back to 1994? This is a pointed question to you Zodwa and I am challenging you to answer.
“The ANC will this and that” as per you post. I read this elsewhere today and I laughed.
Now THIS is propaganda. Just so you actually get to know what the word propaganda means Zodwa; – it is when you tell people that you are going to do something and you know that you never have the intention of doing it.
The ANC could not even dispose of that Manto trash, and even recently elevated that Yengeni pimp to the NEC, plus plus plus….
The day that the ANC implements this, will be the day that I look upon the ANC more kindly. I will not hold my breath, and along with the thousands of Rands that I have bet on Zuma never being president of this country, I am willing to double up on this one never happening in a meaningful way. Just Manto and Tony please.
But if the ANC actually do implement this new ‘cleanup’, then it goes to show how effective COPE has become in improving governance ability by the current ruling party.
This is what it’s all about chaps and chumps. We continue to move forward – POSITIVELY.
And there it is. Works like a charm. I could do without the aggravation and extra labour though.
Eli Jikelele
December 6, 2008 at 9:32 amThe ANC must be commended on once again rolling out five excellent motherhood statements regarding their view of priorities facing the country.
IF the ANC government has been unable to address these priorities during the last 15 years, what has changed that will enable them to do so after the 2009 election? By all accounts the NEC gang members are less knowledgeable with no past experience of fixing that which was broken under the ANC watch.
Why do ANC voters think that a Party who is going to do more of the same (repeating the past in the future), will achieve different outcomes?
It is so sad that hundreds of thousands of my ignorant country men and women will buy these hollow promises from the party who “liberated” them. Just remember that many of the current ANC leaders have proven that they were simply out to enrich themselves at the expense of the poor voters.
To earn my vote, the ANC must show me that it can address ONE of these priorities in a sustainable way, e.g. crime or education. Is that too high an expectation? If the ANC cannot fix ONE of the things that require urgent repair, then it should do the truly patriotic thing by stepping aside to let someone else do it.
…and what are the chances of the ANC doing something really patriotic? I am sure you already know the sad answer.
