FORMER Defence Minister, Mosiuoa Lekota, accompanied by party heavyweight from the Eastern Cape Mluleki George and others, has announced a national convention to decide on the formation of a party to challenge Jacob Zuma’s ANC.
But what will the new party stand for?
Lekota told a news conference at Radio 702 in Sandton that he was opposed to:
* The condoning of tribalism within the ANC;
* Challenges to the judiciary and the rule of law in support of Jacob Zuma;
* Threats by ANC leaders to “kill” for Zuma and the condoning of the singing of songs praising violence.
Essentially, he was saying that the new party would be true to the ANC’s Freedom Charter.
But this could mean almost anything. The Charter is notoriously vague, and some of its clauses, such as those calling for the nationalisation of the banks have quietly been ignored by the ANC.
What Lekota appears to be outlining is a party that will follow existing ANC policy, but without the leadership of Jacob Zuma.
It would be loyal to the Constitution and would strongly emphasise non-racialism.
Such a party might get support from ANC members unhappy with the rising tide of militancy within the ANC from the likes of youth leader Julius Malema and the party’s left allies in Cosatu and the SACP, who are demanding economic policy changes.

LEKOTA is a very bitter man, dissy and in need of help, now one has to wander why he joined the ANC in the first place, was it for it’s principles or Personnal Ambitions (annexing wealth and power).

One has to ask where he knows anything about democracy, The people have spoken, they say they want ZUMA, because that is not what he wanted then he must leave the party, thats a show sign that his new party will advocate dictorship where the views of the majority will be suppressed.

He talks about trabalism, what trabalism, are all people in the ANC executive Zulu’s, of cause not.

One the issue of the song, Wenu ya mbambezela, is very relevent to the case of Jacob ZUMA, The man as Judge Nicklison puts it that was what was happening to him, he had to stand and use his gu, litterally to defend himself and the dark forces hidden behind powerfull state organs going after him no matter what it takes. Who does one justify spending millions and millions of state resources to prosecute one man.

It is amazing that Comrade Terror Lekota is mentioning the issue of tribalism as if its a new thing, he forgets that him and his cronies use to refer to our current ANC President as this ‘ZULU BOY’when they were busy plotting his demise.

As for their new party I pray for those who want to be lead by such a soar loser….had he been a true leader and comrade he should fight his battles through the relevant structure of the ANC just like JZ did.

Lekota and his cronies they must be crazy. I have been listening to Terror Lekota on radio 702 and Mluleki George what they are saying to me does not make any sense whatsoever, taking into consideration their legacy, hatred, feeling of betrayal and vengeance.
The political party they are forming is nothing else but a mockery. They state on numerous occasions the freedom charter which is not followed by the new leadership and one might ask why now crying fowl when they were ousted into power in Polokwane by relatively new guard?
The very same new leadership was not happy about the Lekota’s of this world when they were in power but opted to fight within the structures of the organization which Lekota should know better the policies and procedures since he was in the helm of chairmanship for ten years.
They are the ones who push for a third term of Mbeki blocking the other group to take the leadership. They are the ones who fired Zuma and implicate Ramaphosa, Tokyo and Phosa to be attempting to overthrow Mbeki. As for poor Zuma who was continuously a victim of Mbeki and his cronies, has patiently waited for his turn and never insulted any of the senior leaders in public and opted to fight his battles within the party.
They are the ones who were intolerant when they were in power, silencing all the perceived enemies and decided to run away rather than to stand what they believe in within the party when such power was lost.
I call all of them and like minded the bunch of cowards, greedy, power hungry, and dirty unfinished business (personal gains) .It just shows how power can get into ones head and yearns for more without any conviction in his mind to liberate his own people from the shackles of poverty.
As for Lekota I will advise him to concentrate on his wine business and garages he owns and grow his empire and not foolishly exacerbate his already dented legacy.
What difference will they make now whereas they were afforded such opportunity for more than a decade? They must not take masses for the ride to use them to advance their ill-gotten gains.

Terror has never been intelligent from day one. I was surprised when we made him chairperson.

We in the Eastern Cape breath sigh of relief that Mluleki George is no longer the chairperson of our region.

I don’t think they’ll form a party. I think they just need attention like Holomisa did.

Somebody is telling me George is regretting already.

I wonder what Mbeki is thinking after such a myopic and puerile press conf. called George

Wasn’t he the one who presided over the movement meetings when these bad habits started?

It is a good thing that Mr Lekota came out to show that there is an alternative for people who does not want to vote next year for a group that:

1. condone the corrupt practises for example:

over 70 counts of corruption to one member,
the mystery 500G to the other member, etc.

2. the intimidation( K**L if something democratic and constitutional is persued) question lead especially by two certain members of the current NEC.

3. the undoubtedly hijacking of the ANC by SACP and COSATU.

4. the moral question of the current ANC leader when it comes to women.

People must not be fool to follow the party that is full of hatred. However this is about the personality fighting not about the deviation of democratic principles by the new leadership. Above all is absolutely nothing to do about the lay man on the street. They are all elites leaving lavish life styles with immense arrogance. Who will be their face of election as all are not appealing to the masses and let alone forgetting them for more than a decade?. They are now rejected by their own party and turn to the masses. Do not fool us we know what we want.

Come next year election, they will be trash as they never existed. By then their dignity, legacy and years of struggle fighting apartheid will be long gone, nill credentials at their disposal.

They must learn a lesson next door from Simba Mokoni who breaks away from Zanu-PF with the hope of gaining support from the disillusioned party members about Mugabe regime.

Dear Styles,

In response to yor comment;

First and foremost; I must say that it seems like you dont clearly understand how the policies and structures of the ANC work.

Secondly; one should avoid being bias – in a sense that Terror was the Chairperson of the ANC for more than a decade but failed to raise all these issues….now that they have been stripped of the power they come up with all these irrelevant remarks…..my question to you is why now???…he had ten years to do it but didnt.

Lastly; democratic change is good and people should just deal with it! – furthermore the ANC does not need selfish and greedy leaders like Terror….who are clearly bitter, revengeful and angry at losing in Polokwane.

While sitting in my flashy office, after listening to Lekota’s speech, I asked three cleaners in our offices who they will vote for next year, They all said ANC, I asked them the reason, one lady said, maybe new ANC will do something for us in the mkhukhu camp.

I said to myself, maybe I have been feeling like Lekota all along now that I have tasted the warm cushion of my office. While most of us see misery in the new leadership of ANC, there are people from places such as Khutsong that were trampled by Lekota before that see hope in the new leadership. Maybe you may not see that in your flashy office or flashy car.

I will still vote ANC and join the three cleaners

This is very good for our democracy indeed, regarless of all the motives behind the formation of this movement. If they were to contest next year’s elections I would certainly vote for them because the current ANC (post Polokwane) is purely based on loyality to certain individuals and not the course.

If Mr Lekota and he cronies are indeed doing what they are doing because of anger, vegance, etc so be it because the very same individuals who are saying this did the same thing when they showed their disatisfaction and disapproval of Mbeki and his cronies e.g. T-shirts with Mbeki’s face on them were burnt at certain rallies, Malema made some comments which leaves quite a lot to be desired as result of him showing his disapproval of Mbeki but very little was said about.

Democracy is about showing respect to your fellow man in the same way that you would want to be respected…

Terror Lekota
He was instrumental in organising victory celebrations when Mozambique won its freedom from Portuguese colonial rule in 1974.
He was sent to Robben Island Prison from 1974-82, for conspiring to commit acts endangering maintenance of law and order. He was detained and sentenced in the Delmas trial in 1985. He was released after the Appeal Court reviewed the sentence in 1989.
He is called “Terror” because of his style of soccer playing when he was young.
THIS IS NOT SOCCER BOET. YOU LOSE THIS TIME BIG TIME.

Dear Cmrd Lekota.

I am highly disapointed in you as a person and SENIOR member of ANC who chaird this organisation for solid 10yrs, and today you are a rebellion and engage such an attack to liberation movement you worked so much the rest of your life. Forming other organisation against ANC is not wise at all. Engaging ANC structures to raise issues as per protocol would have been better and benefit all of ANC supporters and organisation as it is. Do not act like spoilt brat and out of anger and revenge against your fellow comrades and organisation. This shows how short circuted your brain is. Diversity in unity as our code of arms put it. Come back home and speak with comrades heart to heart and debate issues as grown matured responsible caders. We can not afford divisions at this time and we need to have a strong front and we need each other more than ever. You might not approve of the current leadership of ANC now, but remember yourself while in the same leadership all mistakes and misjudgement you committed. Act like a leader and do not chicken out. ANC till the last breath.

Syd, the damage done by Mbeki administration in sidelining the committed cadres of ANC was very huge.Look, this are the very same people who had been cut out of the public politics for more than a decade by Thabo and his cronies the Lekota’s of this world.

They are now given the chance to rule come next year and let us adopt wait and see attitude because for them will be the first time.As for Lekota and his elites club they were given the chance. What will they do different now than when they were in power? The new ANC leadership never resorted in leaving the party but they waited for their turn.”Vulture is the patient bird”.

Some people they think of themselves as indispensible and sadly comrade Terror is one of those. Over ten years as chairman of the movement and nothing to show for it, except ill-discipline. Comrade Mbeki stated clearly that he is loyal cadre to the movement and he abides by its decision. So I wonder why people like comrade Terror feel so agrieved?

The current Leadership of the ANC was chosen by its members, following basic democratic principle of “Majority wins”.

History has proven that loosing has never been the problem of the movement, we have dedicated and talented cadres who can guide us towards reaching our objectives as the movement.

So let the loosers worry about loosing next years election… vote the past, presant & Future ANC

Its good that Lekota at last has decided to leave the ANC ,it shows that he was not a loyal member even before. This raises our eyebrows that he was never a comrade but an opportunist who always wants to benefit from the ANC, which he claims to wanting to protect its Freedom Charter. If he believes in democracy he should have stayed no matter what untill what he feels is not done correct be corrected. He is very arrogant and undisciplined. He deserve to be charged as per the ANC Constitution. He wants a new party because of greed and selfishness. He is not a leader.Aleader leads and is lead ,and accepts change ,democracy, respects the culture and values of his organisation. All puppets can go and join them is their democratic right, for as long they will have salary in parliament not claiming to be having the intrests of fellow South Africans.Amandla.

Simply because one says the proposed new party will not succeed, then it should follow that it won’t. Similarly, just because you say something will succeed does not mean that it will. Furthermore, vilifying someone just because you do not agree with them doesn’t make them bad nor does it follow that everybody will disagree with them. The fundamental mistake that the ANC and its members including supporter make, is to be dismissive of the concerns raised by Lekota and shared by a significant number of ANC members. The ANC in the past few days through its, multiple spokes-persons, has be rather arrogantly dismissive of Arch Bishop Tutu’s “no vote” comment, only to back-track later when they realized that a significant part of the population support the Arch.

You can abuse Lekota a much as you like but that will not direct from the fact that his press conference was as hard hitting as it was well received by the media and the general public causing general panic in the ANC. Should the ANC insist on having Zuma as its Presidential Candidate, it may have to kiss this elections goodbye. Either way, the ANC will loose at least four provinces in the coming elections. The “collective leadership” has been hard at work settling political scores, exerting revenge and scoring cheap political points against some of its very own comrades, that they have lost focus on the real issues. They have been on a warpath, preferring division over unity. Publicly ridiculing their own deployees; fighting amongst themselves and simply contradicting each other on key issues. They insist that the ANC is the centre of power, yet it speaks on so many fronts, in multiple voices and in contradiction to each itself.

It is about time the political space is opened further to create appealing choices. This is business unusual. What is certain is that the proposed party may not be far from the ANC in principle and ideology but it will offer a different leadership that adheres to the principle they advocate. Veering away from your own principle is hardly a virtue to be admired in any one. Amandla!!!

Thia was inevitable. The ANC had 14 good years, but in reality there were always two ANC’s. The Business ANC and the Worker’s ANC, they were bound to come into conflict. Zuma has the populist touch, for sure, but I think that a lot of the things that Lekota said about the ANC being run by a mob has some validity. I think this is not necessarily a bad thing for South Africa. The ANC is known for it s group think. Everyone must abide by the collective will. But in reality South Africans are very independent of mind and want to and need to express themselves in different ways. The New ANC Party or whatever it will be called will have to show why it can deliver better then the old ANC. I think that in the short term, Zuma will win and rule, until they realize that he too can’t deliver. I acutally think that the ANC should stick with Molthanthe, he seems to be the only sober one in the bunch and is cool headed. Lekota should remember that every dog has his day. Mbeki had his, Zuma will have his. In the end, a man always shows his true colors when his back is up against the wall. Zuma will face that soon and the world shall see if he is truly able to govern. People talk about loyalty, but ask yourself this–should the Germans have stayed loyal to Hitler? Just becaue he was German. Should the Hutu’s have stayed loyal to their government just because. Loyalty to party is important if you beleive in the party platform, but if a long time member of the ANC, who fought in sthe streets with his brothers in the struggle, says that there is something worng with the internal workings–one has to a pause is ask if there is something to that. Sometimes it is not just the person who leaves the Party, but the Party sometimes leaves them. I don’t even think Nelson Mandela would recognize the ANC of today. He has notably absent from the debate. It must be sad for him to see what has become of the ANC since he left. Some of this clearly based on personal ambition. In fact, most of it Zuma’s, Lekota’s and Mbeki’s ambition and their cronies have made this what it is. But we should just call it that. Let’s stop hiding behind the good of the party. We know this is all about people’s personal political aspirations. Tokyo Sexwale was right when he was “campaigning” for the presidency, its time that the ANC allow it members to battle openly and freely their ideas for the leadership of the party. Let it be open and public instead of backroom and behind the scenes. This leads to too much intrigue. Wouldn’t it have been better to hear Zuma, Mbeki, Lekota, Sexwale debate the issues in front of all of the ANC so that the people could then vote and make up their mind on who they wanted to represent them. An ANC primary. All wings of the ANC could be heard and the people then can make informed decision on who best represents their interest. Do you really now what Zuma thinks or Mothlanthe. It’s just the party platform. But how one will govern and their priorities are important. Instead the NEC chooses in back room manuevering the head of the party and the head of the nation. The ANC needs reform. Zuma, can do it if he is willing. It will further democratize the ANC and allow for a people to rise who truly have the best ideas for the party and the nation. Otherwise, populists will always win and the best will be drowned out(And I am not saying that Mbeki was the best). To ignore this fundamental probledm with the ANC will only hurt the people in the long run. In the end, Zuma will go, Lekota will go and Mbeki will leave the scene. The people will be left to pick up the pieces and wonder what they have done. Democracy is not group think. Democracy respects the will of the people and respects the right of the individual to hold differing views. God help South Africa!

Wonderful,

What a Sense of hope, what a relief.

Anger can be good for democracy. Zuma’s ANC presidency is a result of Anger. ANC itself is a result of anger. So, my advice is: Those who are forming the new ANC must not be embarrassed to say that they are angry. The Zuma ANC is a group of extremely angry individuals that is the point.

It must be noted that, the new ANC will be good for the Current ANC which is currently consumed by power grabbing and material accumulation. Maybe the New party will glue the Zuma faction together for a common course.

The new party will also be good for some of us who had concluded not to participate in the next elections. I would never be able put a cross next to Zuma’s head in an election.

This party will give me a chance to participate in the next election.

Lekota must just not fall in the trap of the current ANC, they might sweet talk him and dump everybody after the elections.

This party if formed will make 2009 election extremely vibrant.

One other thing that I would like to advice the new party about is that: They need to make South Africa take ownership of their president, this is a crucial differentiation, and all the big names must campaign and compete internally for elections to come up with 2-4 potential presidents were all of us can participate in voting for the President.

This strategy can elevate them to wining the election, it is a loop hole they need to take full advantage of.

When this party is formed, it must not have one face (e.g. Lekota) it must be a multifaceted party of people like 1. Shilowa, 2. Madisha, 3. Rasool, 4. Pahad, 5. George 6. Phumzile Mlambo, 7. Moloto etc.

This entire people must be given a chance to campaign for elections for the President’s office. It must never look like its one person’s initiative, and that person owns it.

Other leaders must start making noises in the side line and even tipping us that the party will definitely go ahead.

In my opinion, any move to try and settle the differences within the current ANC it’s fatal and extremely dangerous.

If they play they cards right, they will have my Vote.

If there are people who still believe that the decision to prosecute Zuma was purely the NPA decision and not politically influenced they must start to teach themselves politics? These things happen in politics but it is very difficult to prove their existance. This is because very few people get involved and those that get involved form serious pacts such based on rewards promised and given and in no time they all get entangled such that the consequences of spilling the beans are dire for any of them. Now we know Maduna, Mbeki and Ngcuka were part of the first group of conspirators and others had to join in because they found themselves enmessed.
Do people believe that the Deputy President of the ANC at the time would have been investigated. from the prima facie evidence stunt Why would Pikoli be fired (oh suspended) for investigating and hinting at arresting Selebi? No instruction was given or if it was he ignored it. In fact Shabir Shaik’s investigation would not have been started. It was a long way of getting to Zuma. Why was Zuma not charged as a co-accussed with Shaik. They had to wait until Shaik was found guilty before Zuma was charged.

This guys must go they wanted to manage the ANC like their own company. One wonders what would have happened if people like Ramaphosa, Phosa, Tokyo, Pallo Jordaan and other independent minds that were suppressed by Mbeki would have been allowed to join or continue working in government.

The long waited move by those who wanted to rule South Africa forever has been exposed and as expected very stupidly , they think that South Africans are stupid like them, the bases of forming that party was made clear : individual interests than what the country is facing, the very same lekota shy away from what the voters mandated him, majority wants service delivery because he was the part of them who have failed our people. He reference his anger to freedom charter, where was him:

1. when the Telkom was privatized and the big chunk of stake went to those who were close to the leadership of the country and the movement, instead of Telkom phone charges going down
2. My heart goes to poor development in eastern cape, where was the freedom charter and him(lekota) when majority of our poor people are still being taught under the trees
3. he mentioned equality before the court, in 2005 June (JZ) was excused or relieved from the government before he was even charged at any court, where was the equality before the court
4. Freedom charter advocates peace, money was spent on keep force mission in Africa while the South Africans are dying every day in violent crimes within our own borders
5. Comrades needless to say, our public hospitals have been reduced to nothing I mean those facilities that are used by our mothers, grandfathers, mothers and even majority of our people who are poor who have no medical aid etc where was freedom charter
6. He indicates that JZ promotes tribalism by his 100% Zulu boy , what about those who have sidelined majority of South African from the key positions because of their ethnic group or tribe, but as South Africans we accepted that and even marry ourselves with that arrangemnets, where was him?
7. This new party has nothing and I mean nothing to offer that differ from the ANC resolutions in Polokwane, than the cry of those who think that their careers and business are in danger, they rather return South Africa back to its oppression and oppressors as long the future of them and their families is threatened, it is not about the entire nation

Comrades we can write as much as we can but we say this new party has nothing to offer our people, lets continue to deliver houses, water, electricity and even jobs to our people,

LET POVERTY ERADICATION BE THE OPPOSITION PARTY TO ANC, UNTIL SUCH TIME POVERTY IS TAKEN OUT OF WAY PERMANETLY I DON’T SEE A NEED OF ANOTHER PARTY, EVEN IF THE CURRENT LEADERSHIP OF THE ANC DON’T MAKE POVERTY ERADICATION THEIR OPPOSITION WE HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO RECALL THEM

VOTE ANC OF MANDELA, TAMBO, SISULU, MBEKI, and shun the opportunist like Terror, he represent those who have benefitted most from the votes of the poor,

In defence of the poor

I am writing this note with renewed hope for my country, I have been most upset about the recent events in our country.I am by no means going to say that Mbeki was without flaws but to attempt to disregard his work and his influence on the international political stage is beyond stupidity. You look at the current NEC and they are all a joke and do we the people of South Africa deserve such mediocre leadership, that have no strategy, Zuma can hardly pronounce on policies, his commentary after the World Economic Forum was shocking, let us look at Matthews Phosa\’s attempts to engage with the media, he displays such immaturity it is embarrasing,he can hardly articulate his thoughts , if he does have any, extremely defensive and does not offer solutions.Baleka Mbete, for goodness sake there are women of better substance in our land that have the intellect and more importantly the humility to serve, not mme Mbete.Zuma, fine he is a nice guy as I hear, but to stand your ground on multilateral plartforms and the international you need much more than charm and dancing. He is seriously out of his depth. As for Malema, what an idiot infact the world is laughing at us and wonder what MANDELA HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS POOR LEADERSHIP FROM THE YOUTH THAT FOUGHT FOR LIBERATION.African youth have much more respect and dignity than that.Stand up and fight for this country bathong.

Good on you ntate Terror , we need another force in South Africa not a one party state, the very thing that has continously threatened democracy in Africa. The NEC is an absolute joke.Mbeki yes, was flawed but to try and disregard his good work is beyond stupidity and to try and convince us that Zuma has the makings of a president is even more ludicrous.Phosa, the man can hardly articulate his thoughts and defend the principles of the ANC.This is just a businessman who has his eyes on the money.Baleka, mme some humility would serve you well, leadership is an honour not a right so stop behaving like we all owe you, no you are a civil servant. The ANC has good minds, they must learn to choose people on merit not on some warped criteria. How Malema has still not been recalled is a disgrace and they have the audacity to recall the head of State?People let us wake up these people could care less about us it’s all about how many deals they can secure when they are in office, so let us not allow them to bring this country down.Again I say, Zuma as President, what a joke…….

There is no bitterness and anger from Lekota. There is only the clear distinction between the opposing ideologies that have defined the ANC for some time now.

The ANC failure began with its alliance with the SACP and COSATU. Simple as that. Greed for too much power has proven to be its nemesis. Its the law of life. You cannot invite a woman into the same bed occupied by your wife. The ANC invited two. The wife is becoming irrelevant. In the end the man gets nothing and the women go elsewhere, starting with the wife.

The ANC was a organisation founded by people with very different political views and religious beliefs from a wide variety of ethnic and racial backgrounds who in a normal society would definately not have had anything in common. The ANC was able to exist because of the apartheid State and the common goal was to defeat this evil state. The glue that held the ANC together was this common purpose and some of the finest leaders this country and for that matter this continent has produced. Men and women of principle who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of all the peoples of this country. Who believed in the princples of The Freedom Charter.
The problem now is that their is no more common enemy and the ANC leadership is made up of people with questionable motives conflicting ideologies and a arrogant uncouth Youth League that abuse the morality of this nation. In most soccieties respect of ones elders in leadership positions is accepted as a norm probaly more so in Africa. Yet people like Malema and his Bare Backside Brigade are allowed to continously spew out their hatefull virolent rhetoric to the disgust and dismay of the majority of sensible South Africans.
Unfortunately in South Africa most of the other political parties are best discribed as intrest groups and example is the DA who like the ANC of old is simply a collective of conservatives and liberals with nothing in common except being bent on unconstructive critism of any and everything the ruling party does.
South Africa is ready for a party whose policies are a balance between a socialist democray who truly cares for its elderly, children, infirm and poor. Which creates the balance between a thriving economy and a welfare system that works. Stability and dignity for all its citizens. The ANC is not capable of this. Should a new party strive for this it has my support

Yes Chris.

The DA will also lose support to this new party.

Fellow South Africans, let us once again remind ourselves of the teachings of President Oliver Reginald Tambo when he advised and counseled against the temptation to tackle populists on their most prized possession, namely, populist platforms, but to rather have faith in protracted day-to-day activism and also reaffirm our commitment to build a united movement behind a common vision and a common programme. Through Umdala, the ANC also spoke of Unity in Action, and NOT Unity based on Utopia nor the mere consciousness of a universal state of ‘disenfranchisement’.

O.R. further conceded that, indeed, populists are masters at the craft of populism, and therefore also advised that we might lose sight of the strategic objectives if we preoccupied ourselves with displacing populists from a platform which they ‘rightly’ owned.

Maqabane, I believe we can only succeed in changing the lives of the peoples of our country, for the better, if, on day-to-day basis, we are able to account for practical and physical translation of the ideals expressed in the Freedom Charter into meaningful programmes in our respective localities, instead of obsessing with “Ascension’ [excuse the feeble and unintended attempt at blasphemy].

Kancane, kancane, like we once declared and proclaimed for the world to know, about the fate of apartheid, we must reassert the eminent and gradual demise of poverty and underdevelopment, against the backdrop of a progressive frontier that must be continuously extended in our country, on our continent and the entire globe. Long live the spirit of international solidarity, Long Live! Down with the right wing movement, down!

Viva ANC, Viva!
