The trial of a teacher at Oprah Winfrey’s South African school got underway today in earnest and the testimony is shocking to say the least. This trial places one of the biggest figures in global media in the spotlight and it will make waves around the world. How the media deals with a trial in which a major media personality is involved will be keenly watched.
An extract from the testimony:

The State alleges that Tiny Makopo indecently assaulted girls aged 13 and 14 by kissing them with an open mouth, touching their breasts, forcing them to touch her breasts and creeping into their beds and telling them to be lesbians.
She is accused of assaulting a 13-year-old girl by slapping her, pulling her hair, forcing her to sit on a bare floor for 15 minutes and rubbing custard into her hair.
One of the girls was allegedly throttled and told she was so stupid she did not deserve to be at the school.

That’s how the people in this country treat the outsiders that try to help and improve their lives by giving them decent employment…..

This sort of thing can happen in any country.

This unfortunate incident will be a blow to *** and ******* rights in South Africa. The black communities in South Africa are homophobic and this incident will not help black *** rights at all. I would like to know: who selected this woman as a teacher / matron? Was there a panel of experts? Was Oprah involved in the screening process? Surely this woman’s character should have been screened with psychometric tests and other personality tests? Could someone answer that?

This type of thing happens in schools every single day in South Africa. It has perhaps the highest sexual abuse rate in the world. Only because it’s Oprah’s school is this news.
