FORMER basketball player Lamar Odom has been hospitalized after being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement.
His condition remains “critical” according to an E! report.
In a report by Variety the star of E!’s “Khloe and Lamar” reality series was found unconscious at the Love Ranch South on Tuesday morning in Crystal, Nev. This was after multiple days of partying, reports TMZ, which first broke the news. Odom was apparently intubated in an ambulance, an indication that he was not able to breathe on his own. He was stabilized and transported to Desert View Hospital, arriving at about 4:16 p.m. Authorities conducted an investigation of the scene.
Arrangements were made for Odom to be airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital for further treatment. However, because of his stature (Odom is 6 feet 10 inches tall), he was unable to be airlifted, and was transported by the Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue Ambulance to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas.
Brothel staff immediately called 911 after finding him unconscious, according to E! News, and Odom was put on his side when he began spitting up liquid. It is said that he had taken herbal Viagra, and ordered a bottle of cognac for the room, a third of which was still left by Tuesday, according to the LA Times.
Odom has reportedly not yet regained consciousness. Dennis Hof, the owner of the brothel, told KNX that they’re “very concerned” about him.
Odom, the ex-husband of Khloe Kardashian, previously went missing two years ago after a drug-fueled bender at a Los Angeles hotel. He also appeared in “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” during the on-screen romance with the reality personality. He entered rehab for drug and alcohol abuse in 2013. US Magazine reported that Khloe has since rushed to be by Odom’s side and is said to be “inconsolable.” Khloe is said to be with her sister Kim Kardashian West and mom Kris Jenner while her brother Rob Kardashian and Scott Disick are also attempting to make their way to Vegas.
Odom played a year of college basketball at the University of Rhode Island before turning pro at the age of 18. He played for 14 seasons as a power forward in the NBA, including seven with the Los Angeles Lakers and five with the Los Angeles Clippers. He has not played in the NBA since the end of 2012-13 season. - report by Alex Stedman of Variety.com
Coming off the Toronto Film Festival and SpectreFest screenings of horror comedy The Final Girls, she is now headed for Arrivals, writes Deadline.com’s Dominic Patten. The actress will join Ender’s Game’s Asa Butterfield and Game Of Thrones’ Maisie Williams in the Peter Hutchings-directed coming-of-age indie.
Dobrev, who left the CW’s Vampire Diaries earlier this year after six seasons, will play American flight attendant Izzy, who is the love interest of Butterfield’s character. The screenplay by Fergal Rock was a 2013 Academy Nicholl semifinalist. The pic, produced by BCDF Pictures and Kalahari Films & Media, is set to start shooting in South Africa this winter.
Butterfield’s Calvin is a hypochondriac college dropout who now works as a baggage handler at Cape Town airport. In a funk, he is pulled into the unconventional bucket list quest of Brit teen Skye, played by GoT’s Williams, who also appears on Doctor Who this season. That team-up helps Calvin to face his deepest fears.
Now off the small screen from playing Elena Gilbert on TVD, Dobrev will be seen October 9 on the big screen in the limited release of The Final Girls. Having debuted at SXSW, the Todd Strauss-Schulson directed film also stars Malin Akerman and Silicon Valley’s Thomas Middleditch. Degrassi: The Next Generation alum Dobrev previously appeared in last year’s Let’s Be Cops, 2012’s The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, and 2009’s Chloe.
Dobrev is repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Hansen Jacobson. – report by Deadline
TODAY South Africans will be glued to their screens for their second dose of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central (DStv 122).
According to a report by television writer Thinus Ferreira, last week his debut is said to have pulled 352 855 DStv viewers, with a the 2.6 rating which is reported to be the highest viewership ever achieved by Comedy Central in South Africa since the channel launched in Africa on DStv in December 2011.
The show is said to have surpassed Comedy Central’s previous viewership record which also featured the The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr where Noah was the Roast master in 2012 and scored a 2.0 rating.
According to Deadline.com Noah’s second night hosting The Daily Show clocked a Live+Same Day audience of 1.231 million viewers in the show’s 11 PM ET Comedy Central time slot on September 30. That included 672K viewers in the 18-49 demo. One day earlier, making his debut as host, he’d logged 1.086 million viewers at 11 PM ET, but nabbed many more viewers in a major Viacom-wide simulcast across an additional 11 networks.
Comedy Central, which, like many cable networks these days typically does not issue numbers until Live+3 stats are available, made an exception for Noah’s premiere and put his Day 1 initial haul at 3.7M. That figure also included a repeat on the mothership. Other ratings sources put the number at 3.4M to 3.5M.
And, of course, all the numbers are subject to substantial change as the debut episode, and last night’s No. 2, will collect a substantial number of additional views in replays on Comedy Central and via other viewing platforms. More to come…
On his second night as host of the influential late-night series, Noah skewered presidential candidates’ romance with Lena Dunham and Kanye West as they wooed millennial voters. New The Daily Show host dipped a toe into American presidential cycle skewering, calling the White House race the ultimate contest to find the “toughest leader, sharpest thinker, and … old person who is best at pretending to like young-people things.” He dubbed it “Panderdemic.”
The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is broadcast Tuesdays to Fridays in Africa on Comedy Central at 21:00. - report by Channel 24 and Deadline

CELEBRITIES are usually dolled up in designer gear and heavy make-up at social events, but a hands-on car launch this week was a refreshing change from the norm.
Masterchef: South Africa’s Kamini Pather, MetroFM’s Mpho Maboi, Good Hope FM sports anchor Tammy B, actress Jay Anstey, former Miss South Africa Nicole Flint and Top Billing presenter Jonathan Boynton-Lee were among those treated to an adventure by Ford South Africa for the launch of the new 4X4 Everest in Cape Town.
Mostly clad in sporty gear, there was one exception – Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie rocked up in heels. Clearly she was living up to the notion of driving in heels – or perhaps it is part of her daily routine to look glam while holding up the title’s demands.
“It’s part of work, we have to look presentable, when we do the drive I will wear pumps,” giggled Laurie.
The celebs – who were joined by bloggers and influencers such as Aisha Baker, Sarah Langa and a few others – arrived at the Cape Town airport to be treated to breakfast before being paired into twos and sent to their first driving adventure that led to lunch at the scenic Cavalli Wine and Stud Farm.
On arrival they were treated to refreshments while viewing some of the art exhibitions at the gallery on the farm, before heading to a brief presentation. There, guests were taught about the car’s techniques which include a lane-keeping system, blind spot information, collision alert and cruise control – all included in vehicle, which will set you back about R600 000. The part that had most of the women impressed was the fact that the cubby hole can fit a laptop.
“This is a beautiful car, I expected it to be more pricey,” said Maboi.
They were then treated to a three-course lunch before driving another 90 minutes along dangerous slopes down rocky mountains, muddy pits and bumpy terrain.
Hot couple Anstey and Boynton-Lee were inseparable as they rode in the same car and even shared a few smooches and hugs along the journey. Beauty queen Laurie, who was paired with Pather, seemed to love the thrill as she snapped away with her partner as they alternated driving. Red-haired Tammy B was also quite the sport and made guests laugh with her jokes along the way.
“This is quite an adventure, now we need to make sure we stay in the car while driving those slopes,” she quipped.
By the end of the day, everyone was spoiled with dinner at Chef Reuben Riffel’s restaurant in Franschhoek before heading off to sleep at the lavish L’ermitage Franschhoek Chateau and Villas.
By morning it was time to bid farewell to the adventure as everyone had to get back to the real world.
Who knew driving could be such fun!
FIVE-TIME Grammy Award winner and TV star Christina Aguilera is set to perform in South Africa as the headline act for the 2nd Annual South African of the Year Awards.
The pop star, who scooped her fifth Grammy in February this year for the song Say Something, will perform at the glittering event along with fellow US singer Jason Derulo and a host of local artists including AKA, The Soil and ChianoSky.
A judge on the top-rated US reality singing show, The Voice, Aguilera has sold more than 50 million albums since breaking into the entertainment industry as a member of the Disney channel’s The Mickey Mouse Club (where she performed alongside fellow “graduates” Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake).
The SATY 2015 Awards take place this year at the Ticketpro Dome (formerly known as the Coca-Cola Dome) in Northgate on October 17. Hosted by TV news channel ANN7 the Awards both celebrate and honour prominent and unheralded South Africans excelling in various fields.
These range from business, sport, entertainment, civil society, entrepreneurship and politics as well as ordinary South Africans making a difference in the country. The main category is the South African of the Year Award, which is currently held by the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.
Last year the inaugural awards ceremony was hosted by Bonang Matheba and the international headline act was former member of the Pussycat Dolls and pop star Nicole Scherzinger.
Editor-in-Chief for ANN7 and SATY 2015 organiser, Moegsien Williams, says securing Aguilera was indeed a coup.
“While we are celebrating all things South African, our intention is, at the same time, to market the country and showcase the wide array of talented, innovative, industrious, high-achieving and successful people in our land and within all spheres. This is why, strategically, we secure major international acts each year.”
He says Aguilera is one of the world’s leading recording artists as well as a role model given her numerous charitable endeavours. “The South African of the Year Awards is a prestigious event featuring and attended by the Who’s Who of South Africa. We are therefore proud to have an artist as talented and socially responsible as Christina Aguilera,” says Williams.
Aguilera, 34, rose to prominence when her debut single, Genie In A Bottle, became a worldwide hit in 1999. Since then she has performed around the globe and churned out hits such as What A Girl Wants, Dirrty, Ain’t No Other Man and Beautiful, among others. She has also won a slew of prestigious awards and has been recognised for her humanitarian endeavours.
In the run up to SATY 2015, ANN7 is screening the show, I am South African, which airs Monday to Saturday at 6pm. With 83 episodes commissioned, it celebrates South Africa’s leading artists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, politicians and athletes. It is hosted by model, TV presenter and actor, Masego “Maps” Maponyane, and can be seen on ANN7. – release by ANN7
ROXETTE’S on-going world tour will lead up to the celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary in 2016.
It’s been over four years since Roxette last visited South Africa to perform 10 sold out shows collectively between 2011 and 2012 on the world tour that followed the release of the album “Charm School” in February 2011.”XXX – The 30th Anniversary Tour” has been celebrated by critics and fans all over the world, and the band has sold out several legendary arenas such as The O2 Arena in London, Olympia in Paris and Olympiahalle in Munich.
Next year the duo will head to South Africa in a four city tour starting in Johannesburg’s The Dome on January 31 where tickets will cost up to R790, then they will head to Durban’s ICC Durban Arena on February 2 where tickets will cost up to R735 and take to Cape Town’s Grand West on February 7 for the same price. The Daily Mirror wrote: ”Roxette landed on the O2 stage with a Crash! Boom! Bang! sending the crowd into a pop frenzy with their greatest hits from the last 30 years. It was a night of nostalgia bursting with energy as the dynamic duo of Per Gessle and Marie Fredriksson played tracks including Dressed For Success, Dangerous, Big L and Sleeping in My Car.”

THIS month South African cinema goers are in for yet another treat from comic actor Leon Schuster when he releases his latest flick Schuks! Pay Back the Money.
Directed by Gray Hofmeyr, stars Schuster setting off on a hilarious journey to pay for what he has done, after losing rugby’s holy grail, the Currie Cup. In lieu of a R1 million fine, the Sports Minister (Desmond Dube) offers Schuks a lifeline to create a documentary film that shows South Africa in a positive light.
As the documentary takes shape, the Currie Cup traverses its own perilous journey as it moves from two clueless crooks, Bossie (Ivan Lucas) and Savage (Gerrit Schoonhoven), to an enterprising traffic officer and a conniving pawnbroker, among others. True to form, the “documentary” features a series of brand new candid camera gags for which Schuster is so well known, featuring unsuspecting South African citizens and a host of famous personalities and celebrities – both past and current.
The film is set to hit the Box Office on August 28 and also stars singer and former Idols: South Africa Bianca Le Grange.
AT THE grueling Idols SA auditions in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg this year, the uber-critical judges handed out a grand total of 78 Golden Tickets. In the final tally, 17 of these Golden Ticket winners hailed from the Western Cape, 9 from the Eastern Cape, 13 from KZN, 2 from the North West, 1 from the Northern Cape, 2 from Mpumalanga, 5 from Limpopo and 29 from Gauteng.
While the contestants’ hometowns were spread across the country, the Golden Ticket was taking them all to the same destination – Sun City in the North West Province. That’s what the judges said at the auditions, and that’s what had happened to Golden Ticket winners in previous seasons. Little did these Season 11 singers know that there would be a pit stop on the way to Sun City and that not all the buses would be traveling to the same destination.
In this week’s episode of Idols SA, we’ll see how a twist unlike ever before rattles many of the contestants who’re dreaming of becoming South Africa’s next Idol. But who will end up in which bus, and why?
In another change to the Theatre Week format, previous Idols winner Khaya Mthethwa and Season 5 runner-up Graeme Watkins will step in to give the contestants masterclasses, based on their Idols experience and work in the music industry.
“The Idols judges have found some incredible talent across the country this season , but during the even-tenser-than-before Theatre Week these young singers will have to deliver their absolute best at all times and prove their musical versatility,” says M-Net’s Head of Publicity, Lani Lombard. ”As Khaya and Graeme will explain to them, it’s not easy being a full-time musician, and we need to make sure that the contestants have the will to succeed against all odds.”
At the end of the Idols SA Theatre Phase, the judges will put forward the names of the contestants who will be singing for the public vote. So the big question is: Who will come out tops at Idols “Hell Week” at Sun City? - release by M-Net
Clothes, they say, make the man. But occasionally, a lack thereof may make the man as well.
But for music icon Lenny Kravitz, things took a slightly different turn on Monday when he was entertaining the heaving crowds at Gröna Lund in Stockholm as part of his current Strut World Tour when his pants just ripped.
This incident fully exposed the 51-year-old rocker while crouching with his legs open, the going-commando star initially seemed unaware that he was on full show to the audience, unprotected from the sanctity of a pair of boxer shorts.
It soon became clear to the American Woman hitmaker that something had gone awry in his nether-region, though, as he quickly left the stage for a few minutes. The guitar-wielding musician then returned after having had a change of clothing, sporting a brand new and un-ripped pair of leather bottoms so he could continue the rest of his show fully covered.
According to Swedish website The Local, a producer for the show had taken to the stage to alert the screaming audience that there had been some issues on the stage.
Speaking to local paper Expressen, an member of the audience explained what had happened.
“The producer stepped up and said that they had ‘some problems on stage’. A bit later Kravitz came out wearing other trousers. He said ‘sorry, I ripped my trousers’,” the fan said.
“It was insane, I killed myself laughing. And then I called my mum who was there at the show as well. Her reaction was the same and she almost killed herself laughing too,” she continued, revealing it was all taken in jest.
Ever the consummate performer, though, Lenny carried on with his gig, performing his greatest hits as he continued his globe-trotting tour, in line with his latest album, Strut. He kept it simple for his on-stage look, pairing those tricky leather pants with a classic black t-shirt, a statement necklace and a denim jacket. And, as ever, the cooler-than-cucumber star rocked a pair of black shades for the entirety of his set.
After the gig, which was clearly otherwise successful, Lenny thanked his Swedish fans for their support on his Twitter page.
He wrote to his 4.91m followers: “Thank you Stockholm! #StrutTour.” – report by DailyMail
