Expensive Beliefs

Faith: Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel. – Ambrose Peirce

A Feng Shui master has been arrested for forging someone’s will – which is to say fraud not relating to telling people that putting the bed there will result in you getting rich, while putting it here will get you laid.

Feng Shui is an energy scam. What that means is that it all goes on some vague energy running through and around things so that your interior decorator can charge you more for moving your chairs. This energy of course, is largely undetectable by anybody but the woo practitioner.

This energy likes some shapes, dislikes others and generally comes with a sell-by-date so you have better direct it well. It is like chakras or crystal therapy for your house, with about as much scientific support.

It appeals to us because for one thing, getting in somebody with an eye for interior design will generally end up with a house that looks nice, and it’s a lazy way to success. We don’t want to earn our success; we want to get it by sitting in a good view of the TV.

What a short sighted article! Where ever there is a prospect of money, there will be someone around to exploit it. That includes people making money of religion. The author of this piece, is obviously not enlightened in the slightest way, what a show of stupidity, “all goes on some vague energy running through and around things.” To the author, please try and educate yourself, your lack of insight into the topic feng shui is apparent.

Bruce has really got the wrong end of the stick. Yes there are silly Feng Shui consultants that may make suggestions as he has outlined. FS is much more about design and the built environment and if he would like some detailed info I will be pleased to help. As far as scientific proof is concerned, he is not quite correct. For instance there is now evidence that flight & fight hormones in the brain are raised when we sit with our back to a door, originating from our primeval auto-response system. An important part of FS is placing furniture/the body when at rest/work/play. Its not quite a simple as Bruce suggests and maybe he might like to have some further more informed information.
