We’ve had some good cricket lately, but one game that got away at the weekend was between the Dolphins and Eagles where David Miller announced his arrival on the stage.
The 20-year-old came in at No 7 for the Dolphins at Kingsmead on Sunday in a 40-overs match against the Eagles.
At the point of his arrival at the crease, the Dolphins, chasing 260, were 147 for five and looking unlikely to reach their target.
But Miller set about the Eagles bowling, scoring an unbeaten 70 off just 44 balls, with four sixes and six fours. Together with wicketkeeper Daryn Smit, who made an unbeaten 53, they took the Dolphins to victory by five wickets.
Miller has been a promising batsman since his time at Maritzburg College. He made a half-century on debut for the Dolphins last season, but since then he has struggled. One problem has been batting him high up in the order, where he was ruthlessly exposed.
However, coach Graham Ford kept faith with the youngster, urging him to play his natural game. On Sunday it paid off big time for the Dolphins.

He will be good as long as England doesn’t poach him.
