Oh, not. Not another Shane Warne!
Well, he resembles the great legspinner in his mannerisms and the balls he bowls are a bit like Warne’s. And he’s taking lessons from the Fat Boy.
Steve Smith is busy playing for New South Wales against Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield game and has already taking three wickets.
OK, so he’s conceded over a 100, but at least he got in a lot of bowling. Thirty-four overs at the last count. And on an SCG pitch that did not exactly encourage the slow bowlers.
And among his victims was West Australia’s styling left-hand opener Wes Robinson, bowled leg stump trying to sweep. The other two wickets were those of Marcus Stoinis, the promising youngster, and skipper Marcus North.
Down the Track won’t get carried away by young Steve, who’s only 20, but it’s always lekker to see a leggie.
Smith resembles Warne from the way he adjusts his shirt at the top of his mark, to the flick of the ball from one hand to the other, to the purposeful run-up to the crease.
Whether he can be half as good as the cricketing superstar, says TheRoar.com, is anyone’s guess, but the early signs are okay.
