An Aussie mate of Down the Track’s is in India on holiday. He bowls a bit of gentle leg-spin that often doesn’t find its length and can bat sensibly against a swinging new ball.
He might be in his late fifties, but he’s hoping for a game now that the Aussie casualty list is beginning to resemble the one from Gallipoli.
The latest Aussie to be ruled out of the series in India is Moises Henriques, who sounds more like someone who should be leading people to a promised land.
The Portuguese-born bowler was himself a replacement for another of the Aussie wounded. Moises only came out to India because James Hopes was hurt.
Henriques’s injury follows those of Peter Siddle, Brett Lee, Tim Paine and Hopes. Even before they left home, the Aussies had to leave behind Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Callum Ferguson and Nathan Bracken.
When the Aussies finish up in India next week, they face the Windies at home. The Windies are back to strength for reasons different from health. Their best players quit because of — ho hum — another money row.
Will it be a case of full-strength Windies against under-strength Aussies?
