The first time I saw Moises Henriques bowl he looked like a pie-chucker. But that might have been because Keiron Pollard was batting at the time.
It was during the Champions League when Trinidad & Tobago (Pollard’s team) snatched an unlikely victory from New South Wales (Henriques’s team). Of course, later that result was reversed in the final of that exciting tournament.
Between that match and the final, I had reason to change my opinion of the young NSW quickie. Now he’s being called into the Aussie squad as cover for injured Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and James Hopes in India.
Australia have a serious lack of bowling depth ahead of the second match, to be played on Wednesday in Nagpur, after the trio were sidelined with injuries.
Henriques, who will only arrive in Delhi tomorrow, is a 22-year-old who was born in Portugal before migrating with his family to Australia when he was one.
Thing about Henriques is that he could qualify to play for England, just like South Africa’s Dominique Telo, who has Portuguese ancestry. They can do so through European Union qualification, apparently.
