The African National Congress (ANC) today said it had – with concern – observed the intense public debate between veteran ANC member Professor Kader Asmal and leaders of Umkhoto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKVA).
It started with deputy police minister Fikile Mbalula calling Asmal a lunatic and a latter day Don Quixote. The MK veterans just chose to say that he should find the nearest cemetry and die. Well I guess, Mbalula does some reading, and the MK veterans didn’t have much time for literature in the bush.
In a statement Secretary General, Gwede Mantashe, said: “Today I held discussions at ANC headquarters Luthuli House with MKVA leaders to find closure and bring sanity on the matter. While we accept responsibility of ensuring that the younger generation of our movement should respect ANC veterans, we equally expect veterans to provide leadership on issues”.
Sanity being the operative word here…

Kadar Asmal is as sane as can be. Labeling him insane does not change the truth.
