Almost 20 years after the trip that became Joe Sacco’s legendary graphic novel Palestine, the artist returns with Footnotes From Gaza which focuses on the killing of Palestinians by Israeli soldiers at Khan Younis and Rafah in the 1950s. In an interview with Rachel Cooke for the Observer, Sacco explains, “Both towns stand in for all those places, all those things, that are more widely left out of history. They’re footnotes, but these were also an important day in some people’s lives.”
