Colum McCann’s Let The Great World Spin (Reviewed in yesterday’s Sunday Times) has won the 2009 National Book Award for fiction. The book focuses on the Phillipe Petit’s infamous tightrope walk between the Twin Towers in 1974 (the subjet of the Oscar winning documentary Man on Wire). In accepting the award the Irish born author said, “As fiction writers and people who believe in the word, we have to enter the anonymous corners of human experience to make that little corner right.”
