So while other genres such as fiction and short story writing are experiencing a healthy return to form in South Africa, there’s not much of a local Sci-Fi scene but the 27th “Nova Short Story Competition” organised by Science Fiction/Fantasy South Africa is looking to change that.
This annual competition encourages writing in the Science Fiction and Fantasy field and promotes local talent. This year again sees a double competition where stories will be judged as either General or South African in theme or backdrop. The prizes are as follows :
SA Section: 1st – R750.00 2nd – R500.00 3rd – R250.00
General Section: 1st – R500.00 2nd – R300.00 3rd – R200.00
(A special prize for under 18’s will also be awarded if enough entries of a suitable quality are received).
The competition recieved good repsonses last year and we hope that budding Ray Bradburys, Philip K. Dicks and Marion Zimmer Bradleys will once again be encouraged to demonstrate their otherworldly talents.
