WORLDWIDE Internet search engine have apologised over the offensive picture of US first lady Michelle Obama that appeared high on its list of search results since Monday.
The image that was toping the search list showed the first lady’s picture that was manipulated giving her features of a monkey. According to the search engine the incident show Google’s search engine are manipulated through ‘Google bombing’ – where people hit certain web pages to boost their ranking in a search.
Until late yesterday, the image was still on top of the search engines site when people looked for images of Michelle Obama, but today the image was removed from all sites including the Post Chronicle, BYT and many other news sites that had the image to show the readers.
In a statement to the media, Google said sometimes Google search results from the Internet can include disturbing content, even from innocuous queries.
“A site’s ranking in Google’s search results relies heavily on computer algorithms using thousands of factors to calculate a page’s relevance to a given query,” the statement read.
