Lastnight several media and friends of seven member hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp were treated to a dynamic listening session of their new album called Fair and Skwear, after three years since the group had released an album together.

The interactive listening session was made up of a video of the group talking about each of the 12 tracks on the album, that was shot around Johannesburg where the group discussed the reasoning behind the songs, choice of beat and lyrics. It also involved the guests having to share their feelings of the launch on social site Twitter.

Guests there included Big Brother contestant Lerato Sengadi, rapper Amu, Club Dj Naves, Max-hoba and many other Joburg based entertainment journalists were there to share in on the fun at Darkie Cafe restaurant in Joburg’s CBD.

With hits Batshele and Summer Song on the album, the group explained their absence to releasing in those years, as a space they used to grow individual as they all embarked on solo projects.

“We were all working on ourselves as individuals and there were barriers that also made us not get together to make an album. I was working on my solo project plus I have a baseball league that I am working on,” said member Flabba.

But apart from the dimensions and the several hick-ups they managed to get back togehter and do the 12 track album that also features singers such as Relo, Lungelo, Max-hoba, Tarmasha, Kruna and Clu on different tracks.

“There is no formula to us, we didn’t know how big any our hits will be but we still worked on them and released them, like we did with this album, if it makes it as a commercial hit and gets out there faster, that is good for us,” said Slikour.

“People must just buy the album and know what we are about, this album is different as we have reinvented ourselves, we are older and have more knowledge and what is out there. People will be suprised at how different we sound but have still managed to keep the message local,” said Bozza.

Out of all the hits on the album, I choose the no.7 track Sgubhu, that I think will set summer festive season on fire.
