There is something about Kenya I don’t know what it is but whatever it is, its made me fall in love with that country.

I was invited to the second annual MTVBase Africa Music Awards that were held in Kenya over the weekend.

Only arriving at the airport at dawn, arrived on the Friday. Straight on we were welcomed by the organiser Alison Reid and Melinda Connor, who were our guides through put the weekend. And before we knew it or even taking a nap it was time for us to go out to the press conference, where I bumped into some South African artists who were also nominated in the awards such as HHP, Zuluboy, Lira, Bricks and many other stars from around the continent including MI, Blu3, Nameless, 2Face, D’Banj and the highlight Wyclef Jean.

Clef was so chuffed by HHP, that he called him “a beast” for his lyrical content and rapping skills, and being the patriot I had to cheer more as I was proud that he was recognising SA as a place and not some jungle.

Then we indulged in a lunch and in no time it was time for us to head to the pre-party, very great music that was played and another highlight was a surprise performance that Wyclef, that mellowed the expectations for the awards night.

Then it was time to head to bed, which never happened as leaving the club, the only room to sleep was during the visit to the market.

The awards were perfectly organised as it saw great perfomances from Samini, Wyclef, Akon, Da Les, Zebra ang Giraffe and Cassette.

Congratulations to all the winners and am sure South African’s are more excited about the localshe late Lucky Dube who’s award was accepted by his son Thokozani Dube,  HHP and Zebra and Giraffe, you guys sure made South Africa proud.

Thanks for the great awards and parties.

I hope they come to SA next year.
